His eyes followed the movement of her tongue. He started to lower his head toward her. D.J.'s lids fluttered closed, and she arched her neck, offering her lips. |

A second later she lay alone on the floor, the warmth and hardness of McCall's body removed from hers. D.J.'s eyes snapped open and she sat up. McCall stood at the window, staring outnot down. If not for the rigid line of his back, D.J. would have thought she imagined what had just passed between them. |

"What happened?" she asked, cursing the husky, sexy sound of her voice. |

She'd meant between them, but she wasn't about to admit that now. "I saw. How'd you do it?" |

McCall shrugged, the movement emphasizing the tension in his shoulders rather than easing it. Why did he seem so upset nowwhen he'd succeeded in saving a man's life? "I've had a lot of training. He needed to know someone in the world cared. Hopefully he'll listen to the psychologist at the hospital and get more help. I only wish I could have done more." |
